Taking the Place! (2026) 

Lekkontoret is a play‑driven design studio where children, young people, and adults work together to shape public space. In the residency, The Public Design Office in 2023, we worked with children at Rian Design Museum to build a public design studio grounded in play, shared tools, and co‑designed structures. That experience demonstrated how young people can meaningfully infiltrate institutional spaces—reshaping not only environments but also expectations of who gets to design them. 

This new installation continues that line of inquiry. To develop the interior holding five video works, we began with a three‑day konstkollo at Hallands Konstmuseum together with young people aged 13–16. Throughout the konstkollo we explored how bodies find rest, how attention moves, and how furniture can invite or redirect collective looking. Their contributions—altered sightlines, soft curves, unexpected scales—shifted the project in directions that reflect their agency as co‑makers. 

Returning to a museum for a second time with Art Inside Out makes the presence of youth in the process feel even more significant. Each return opens the institution a little further, creating new pathways for young designers to enter, question, and reshape the space from within. In this sense, the installation is not only a physical structure for video art, but a continuation of our ongoing effort to embed youth perspectives directly into exhibition‑making.

Lekkontoret is a design studio that aims to increase children’s influence on urban design through participatory design processes. The studio comprises both child and adult designers working on projects in public spaces and at cultural institutions.

The residency The Public Design Agency (Falkenberg Municipality, 2023) involved collaborating with invited designers and artists to experiment with how co-creative, speculative, and critical design can prompt us to rethink the role of design in our shared, built living environments.
