Tilda Lovell & Karin Drake

Tilda Lovell works with sculpture and installations. Her artistic universe is dreamy and winding, often with a somewhat frightening and menacing undertone. In enigmatic sculptures, creatures and beings appear that unite man, nature and animals. 

Lovell graduated from the Royal Institute of Arts in 2003 and has since participated in many group exhibitions and had several solo exhibitions. In the fall of 2023, she received attention for the exhibition Something dark stood at the five thresholds of our senses without crossing them together with Sara-Vide Ericsson at Bonnier’s art gallery. 

Lovell has made several public art works in Sweden and has been awarded prizes such as the Maria Bonnier Dahlin scholarship and the Bernadotte Art Awards. She is represented at Malmö Art Museum, Gothenburg Art Museum, Borås Art Museum and Alma Löv Museum. Lovell lives and works in Färila Hälsingland and is also active in Stockholm. 

In the residency, Tilda Lovell collaborates with video artist and animator Karin Drake to let their different visual languages ​​shape a common vision. 

Karin Drake is a filmmaker and animator with a particular interest in film- and video history and its similarities then and now – from the pre-cinematic techniques of the 19th century to the moving images of today. Drake has a broad practice with assignments that alternate between video technology, cultural event production and pure animation assignments, often collaborating with other filmmakers and artists. 

Drake has a degree in gender and film studies from Stockholm University and a practical film degree in animation from Stockholm University of the Arts. Between 2018–2021, she was the artistic director of REX Animation Festival. Drake lives and works in Stockholm and Söderköping. 

In the residence, Karin Drake collaborates with the artist Tilda Lovell to let their different visual languages ​​shape a common vision.
