If They Woke Up - Art Inside Out

Jesper Thour´s installation If They Woke Up consists of almost forty sculptural paintings that, with the forest as a backdrop, allows new creatures, animals and characters to meet us along a nature trail in the park next to the castle.

In the installation If They Woke Up Jesper Thour’s painting has moved into the forest next to the Tjolöholms Castle, where nature and trees form the background of a fable-like scenography. In teeming scenes, associative stories are created where the essence of nature is brought to life. The painting is playful and reminiscent of children’s drawings, but at the same time carries a brooding blackness.

What creatures hide amongst the trees and underneath the earth? What eyes are following us from hideouts in the forest? By giving new life to the creatures of the old tales, Thour examines our relationship with the forest and what happens if we let play, imagination and lost wanderings lead us to a closer relationship with nature again.
