Studio visit

In the spring of 2022, we visited Pia in the studio at Statens Værksteder for Kunst for a conversation about her artistic methods.

Pia Rönicke works with film, prints, sculptures and objects. In the film “Drifting Woods” she searched for the different layers of the forest. In a kind of excavation work on several levels: personal, collective, ethical and political. Together with a large number of people from the local community, she moved through Gästrikland’s forests and asked herself how the view of it has changed and why the forest in it today consists almost exclusively of forest plantations and production forests. Pia Rönicke is also interested in scientific herbariums and picks and preserves plants herself between newspaper pages, in order to investigate their historical, social and geographical context. In Laholm, she takes a closer look at how the river Lagan intertwines with the surrounding areas.
