Kayo Mpoyi is an artist and writer who debuted with the award-winning novel Mai means water, in 2019. Since then, she has published the novel An Exercise in Revolution and the children’s book Kitoko. In Mpoyi’s writing, myths, legends and the supernatural are ever present and form an obvious part of the joys and tribulations of everyday life.

Mpoyi is educated at the Royal Institute of Arts in Stockholm and Biskops Arnö Writing Academy. She writes regularly for Dagens Nyheter and Swedish Radio and has participated in the literature program Babel’s author panel.

During the residency, Kayo Mpoyi will produce text and illustrations but also begin work on an installation that will be part of the exhibition Forgotten Worlds.
