Eleni Kamma (Brussels and Maastricht) works with painting, film, video and performance. Her work is based on the concept of “parrhesia”, a Greek word that can be translated as “the courage to speak one’s mind”.

“I examine the conditions for new parrhesiastic spaces by using artistic tools and methods. I have created a game that consists of several parrhesiastic characters (eg the drunk, the crazy, the angry, etc.). I imagine and think through these characters and their possible interactions in a series of tests, events and manifestations that are inspired by popular entertainment methods such as laughter and exaggeration about the past that question how parrhesia can be tried out, performed, investigated”.

Eleni Kamma, born in Greece in 1973, has a Master’s in Visual Arts from Chelsea College of Art and Design in London, and is a doctoral student at Leiden University Academy of Creative and Performing Arts and Royal Academy of Art (KABK) in The Hague.
