Art Inside Out is a nomadic art institution in Halland that works with contemporary art in new and unexpected locations; both in the city and on the country side. Art Inside Out invites artists in different genres and art forms to art residencies and to create new site-specific works, exhibitions and public programs.
Art Inside Out invites national and international artists to residencies in Halland to create new art works anchored in local environments. Through open and experimental processes, Art Inside Out creates space for unexpected encounters between places, art and people.
Art Inside Out is a unique artist-in-residence, where artists from all genres and art forms are invited to work in selected locations across Halland to create new works in dialogue with local platforms, residents and institutions. Grounded in discourse that unites locally rooted themes with global perspectives, the artists stay for a period of two to three months and create new site-specific art works that reflect their encounter with Halland. The thematic starting point for each residency forms a broader context for the artists’ work and is further developed in exhibitions, public programs and artistic dialogues that Art Inside Out invites Halland’s residents and visitors to. Every year, Art Inside Out invites artists to two municipalities in Halland.
An issue of the printed magazine AIO Journal is published in connection with each residency and forms an experimental editorial platform that gathers contributions from writers and artists who together broaden and deepen the perspectives.
Art Inside Out is run by Region Halland together with Halland’s six municipalities; Kungsbacka, Varberg, Falkenberg, Hylte, Halmstad and Laholm.
