How do we find home? (2026)

In the exhibition Markings – 10 Years with Art Inside Out, I return to an artistic project that was never truly completed. During the residency Artistic Work in Progress in Halmstad in 2018, I explored the idea of home – not as a fixed place, but as a feeling, an experience, and a relationship. What makes us feel at home? And how can a home be shared with others?

During the residency, I transformed a caravan into a Home Wagon: both a physical structure and a moving symbol. It became a mobile space for conversation that travelled through the city. At various locations in and around Halmstad, people were invited to step inside and share their thoughts, dreams, and fears about home. Their stories moved between intimacy and distance, safety and loss, and were brought together in the sound work 88 Voices.

Now the Home Wagon is activated once again. It returns as a place of encounter, but also as a body carrying memories, movement, and resistance. During the exhibition opening, visitors are invited into the Home Wagon parked outside Halland Art Museum, to listen, reflect, and take part in an ongoing conversation. Inside the museum, a new installation extends the work begun in 2018 by bringing together voices and traces from the original project with contemporary experiences. Here it becomes clear that the personal is political: home is never neutral, but is shaped by power, belonging, and exclusion.

The installation moves between the intimate and the collective, between safety and conflict. Finding home emerges as an action, a movement, and an act of resistance. Home is built, dismantled, and continually renegotiated.

Who is allowed to feel at home in Sweden? What feels like home, and what remains unfamiliar? Within this space — between the private and the collective — I continue to ask: How do we find home, and how do we share it?

Active as an artist, art educator, and art activist, she seeks to inspire more people to discover the power, magic, and possibilities of art. The residency Artistic Work in Progress (2018, Municipality of Halmstad) explored public space, using Halmstad as a starting point. The work drew inspiration from Bastionen, Österskans, Norre Port, and Andersberg, as well as conversations regarding the development and future of these locations. Through temporary public artworks, reflective processes, and dialogues with residents, the project examined how art can create vibrant environments and foster new relationships — both within ourselves and with others. Questions concerning the meaning of “home” and who shapes the city’s development were also central to the project.
