Program for spring 2025:

Nils Holgersson’s wonderful journey, but whose Sweden is portrayed?
27/02/2025

The artist duo Karin Keisu & Josse Thuresson explore representation through art and ask the question: Who gets to take a place in our common story? Selma Lagerlöf’s book “Nils Holgersson’s wonderful journey” lacks the description of Tornedalen and its Meänkie-speaking population. In their works “Who is the sleeper?” and “A patch of shadow” the duo reflects on the invisibility of minorities, monolingual norms and lack of representation. Their art illuminates how these factors affect our understanding of place and belonging, and they raise questions about which voices are heard in connection with the design of our common habitats.

An abstract concept or an obvious part of all people’s everyday?
20/03/2025

Emina Kovacic, chairman of Sweden’s Architects and city architect in Karlshamn, shares in this webinar their experiences of designed living environments. She emphasizes the ways architecture affects our everyday life and the importance of engaging residents, entrepreneurs and visitors. Through Karlshamn’s Architecture Week, she highlights the importance of architecture locally. At the same time in her national role she works to strengthen awareness of designed living environment and its role in societal development.

Uppsala’s new tramway – a 17 km of artistic embodiment
24/04/2025

How to create a tramway that is not only a transport solution but also part of the city’s identity? In this webinar you get an insight into how architecture, design and art work together to shape Uppsala’s future tramway. The new tramway will connect Uppsala C with a new train station in south-east Uppsala and is a collaboration between Uppsala Municipality and Region Uppsala. Kristina Forssbeck Nyrot, landscape architect and leader for designed environment, and Wanja Eriksson, art project manager at Region Uppsala, talk about their work to design a sustainable and visually cohesive transport environment along the 17 km long stretch.

Artistic competence in site- and rural- development
15/05/2025

In the working community Karmansbo, in 2024, new forms of cooperation for a designed living environment were tested, while a poet in Frövifors contributed with artistic perspectives to new industrialization. These initiatives are part of Cultural power fields in rural areas (2023–2025), a project run by Region Örebro County and Region Västmanland, with support from the Culture Council. Anna Wignell, Jenny Berntsson and other officials share their experiences and talk about the initiative’s further development.
