Designed Living Environments for Breakfast
Meet architects, artists, cilvil servants, politicians and researchers and get a unique insight into new strategies and working methods on how different aspects of designed living environment can impact and contribute to improve conditions in our society. The webinars are held once a month during spring and fall and take place on Thursdays between 08.30-09.30. You connect through the digital plattform Teams with a link posted in calendar events in connection with the events, no pre-registration is requested.
The conversation series is organized in a collaboration between Region Uppsala, Region Halland, Region Blekinge, Region Jämtland Härjedalen and Region Västmanland.
Program for autumn 2024:
September 19: DESIGNED LIVING ENVIRONMENT AND REGIONAL PROCESS MANAGEMENT
Hanna Smekal is process manager for designed living environment at Region Halland. Her three-year position is co-financed by the Department for Culture and Education and the Department for Regional Development. The assignment includes mapping the work with designed living environment in Halland, developing networks and collaborations, raising the level of knowledge in the area and integrating designed living environment in the regional physical plan. She has established a network with around 35 municipal officials from various areas in all of Halland’s municipalities. Hanna will now share her experiences when the project has reached its half-time.
October 10: MAKING HISTORY AND RECYCLING IN ULLEÅKER
Two artistic projects in the urban development project Ulleråker in Uppsala have been carried out based on Ulleråker’s art program. The artists have reused felled trees and reflected on the history of the site through past, present and future. In the Hospitalträdgården, near the historic Hospital building from the 19th century, there are the new artworks “Parallel room” by Lies Marie Hoffman and “Grail splash” by Mattias Bäcklin. In addition to the artists, project manager and art consultant Ann Magnusson and commisioner Tuva-Li Peter Lidé from Uppsala municipality also participate in the conversation.
November 14: PLACES FOR CHILDREN AND YOUTH
Urban planner and site developer Mustafa Sherif discusses the importance of including children and young people in urban development and design processes. He points out that around 23% of the world’s population are children and young people under the age of 19 (Source: Statistics Sweden). The research also shows that urban environments are crucial for their physical and mental health. Despite this, children are an often overlooked target group in urban development. Mustafa shares examples of how to include children and young people in these processes, both in Sweden and internationally.
December 5: ARTISTIC COMPETENCE IN SITE- AND RURAL DEVELOPMENT
A residency programme in Karmansbo, Västmanland and a poet in Frövifors, Örebro county contribute to local community development in rural areas. Listen to the experiences from the joint development work of authorities around designed living environment in Västmanland and the project Kulturella kraftfält på landsbygden (2023-2025), which is run by Region Örebro in collaboration with Region Västmanland, and with support from the Swedish Art Council.
