Katja Tukiainen vs. Sigga Björg Sigurðardóttir

September October 2016

Laholm

Art Inside Out invited two Nordic artists to Halland to investigate the nature and future of drawing as an art form.

Crossover drawing

Many interesting things have happened within drawing in the past few years. Comic strips, illustration, satire and drawing as an artwork in itself, have all experienced a boost in popularity. In recognition of the year of Nordic drawing in 2016, artists Katja Tukiainen from Finland and Sigga Björg Sigurðardóttir from Iceland were invited to take part in a residency at the Museum of Drawing in Laholm.

Drawing is about seeing and thinking. It is both art and communication. It is a practice that crosses disciplines and allows for different art forms to merge. Sigurðardóttir and Tukiainen illustrate this development and scope of drawing in their works, which combine painting, sculpture, animation and video with drawing.

The Museum of Drawing is the only one of its kind in the Nordic region. The museum’s ambition is to celebrate drawing as an art form and to be a forum for both new trends and historical retrospectives.
