The War Within

Welcome to an evening where film, conversation and theatre meet at Teater Halland!

Together with Teater Halland, we invite you to an experience that explores experiences and memories of war.

Today, many of us carry experiences of having fled war zones or living in its merciless shadow. What does it mean – in times of change and loss of human contact – to carry memories, experiences and traumas from the horrors of war within us? How can language, art and theatre enable ways to process and talk about loss, grief and resistance?

The evening begins with a screening of artist Einat Amir’s film Even if I Myself Cannot Return, created in collaboration with Art Inside Out, at Grimeton Radiostation. The film is an echo of author Thomas Mann’s radio broadcasts to the German people from his exile during World War II. Amir’s film weaves together these historical voices with reflections from contemporary cultural workers in exile – from Russia, Israel, Hungary, Turkey and Iran. Through conversation, language and still images, a dialogue arises between generations about censorship, identity and resistance.

The evening continues with a panel discussion with researcher Somita Sabeti and artist Ceyda Berk-Söderblom, who reflect on the film’s themes and their own experiences of living between worlds.

The audience is then invited to share their thoughts and stories about togetherness, belonging and displacement – ​​about inherited trauma and the impact of war on future generations. These stories are then given new life when Teater Halland’s actors read them on stage.

The program creates a meeting between Teater Halland’s work with the performance Kassörskans glömda blommorr and Art Inside Out’s artistic residency In the Wake of the Waves. Welcome to an evening filled with film, conversation and live art where every voice becomes part of the story.
