Opening | Markings – 10 Years With Art Inside Out

Welcome to the opening of the exhibition Markings – 10 Years with Art Inside Out!

The exhibition highlights a decade of artistic work across Halland. It presents works by twenty-six artists working in media ranging from installation, video, and painting to performance, sound, and text.

At the invitation of Art Inside Out, the participating artists have taken part in residencies throughout Halland. There, they engaged in open, exploratory processes, creating new works through encounters with residents, locations, histories, and experiences—in both urban and rural settings. The artworks were shaped by diverse thematic approaches and interdisciplinary fields, reflected in the breadth of subjects and artistic methods. The exhibition encompasses questions of belonging and otherness, the nature and potential of “home” and the imprint of art on urban transformation. It also addresses fragile ecological interdependencies, the traces of memory etched into the landscape, and the more-than-human realm.

Ten years ago, Region Halland and Halland’s six municipalities joined forces in a unique collaboration to strengthen the region as a hub for artistic production. Together, they launched Art Inside Out—a nomadic institution for artist residencies and a platform for artistic development and innovation. Since then, more than eighty national and international contemporary artists and cultural practitioners have visited Halland. It is with great pleasure that we once again bring together many of the artists we have worked with over the years for this major anniversary exhibition!

Participating artists in the exhibition: Muhammad Ali, Einat Amir, Crystal Z Campbell, Saadia Hussain, Ingela Ihrman, Signe Johannessen, Cora Jongsma, Marit Kapla, Lekkontoret, Eric Magassa, MASU, Katja Petterson, Matilda Ruta, Pia Rönicke & Johan Tirén, Sigga Björg Sigurðardóttir & Katja Tukiainen, Christine Ödlund, Anja Örn & Tomas Örn. Performance program on November 21, as part of the exhibition, featuring Jan Carleklev, Lerin/Hystad, Alexander Rynéus, and Klara Ström.

PROGRAM
14:00 Marika Reuterswärd, Head of Department at Halland Art Museum, and Stina Edblom, Artistic Director of Art Inside Out, welcome everyone and introduce the exhibition. Opening remarks by Hanna Schölander, Chair of the Culture and School Operations Board, Region Halland.

During the opening day, Eric Magassa will perform an improvised live DJ set alongside his installation, featuring spiritual jazz, spoken word, and dub. Saadia Hussain welcomes visitors to her Hemvagn parked outside the museum entrance, and MASU invites you to participate in the collective construction of the installation En egen rörelse.

In the evening, an opening party is being organized in collaboration with Musik Hallandia, featuring a live concert with Joshua Idehen and Lerin/Hystad at Festaurang. Tickets for the evening’s program are available here.
