Listening to nature when designing public designs

A body of water tells us a lot about a place, it helps us stop and look, or gives us a valley to follow. Sometimes it reflects the sky and tells us about good weather, sometimes it roars forward at dizzying speed.

Against the backdrop of the planned culverting of the Lagan, the artists Anja and Tomas Örn have worked together with researchers at Luleå University of Technology to study the movements of the water through turbines in the lower power plant in Knäred in the municipality of Laholm. When the water passes the power plant, vortices are created that propagate, and based on these movements they have created the sculpture Vortex. The sculpture is placed on the small islet between the lower power plant and the upper power plant in Knäred, as a temporary public artwork for the time being.

Anja and Tomas Örn talk about their work with artworks, which were produced during a residency at Art Inside Out in Halland, and about other parts of their artistic practices, including Norrakollektivet, where they, together with Fanny Carinasdotter, often base their work on the forms of production and extraction in the northern landscapes.

The talks are arranged by the program group with representatives from Region Blekinge (Torun Ekstrand), Region Gävleborg (Erik Anderman), Region Värmland (Hannes Trygg) and Region Halland (Davor Abazovic).
